Troubleshooting Cisco AnyConnect 4.8 Download on Mac

If you're experiencing issues with installing Cisco AnyConnect 4.8 on your Mac using JAMF, don't worry - you're not alone. After encountering a series of errors and deprecations, I was able to finally get the installation working by following some troubleshooting steps.

The first issue I faced was that JAMF was unable to install the VPN module due to an error related to deprecated package formats. To resolve this, I flattened the `vpn_module.pkg` using pkgutil and double-clicked it to install it manually. However, this didn't solve the problem, as JAMF still couldn't install it.

After some research, I discovered that the current version of Cisco AnyConnect available through the VPN server upgrades and WebStore is officially supported on Mac OS versions 10.14 (Mojave) and later. This led me to delete all unnecessary packages inside the `pkg_dev/expand` directory, leaving only the VPN installer.

Next, I edited the Distribution File by deleting or commenting out non-essential installation packages. Then, I flattened and expanded the `AnConnect.pkg` using pkgutil, mounted the `anyconnect-macos-7-predeploy-k9.dmg`, and copied it to my Desktop.

After some experimentation, I modified the XML file used by `/usr/sbin/installer -applchoiceChangesXML` to only install the VPN and Umbrella components of the application. This involved creating a new post-install script using `#!/bin/bash` and copying the modified XML and package files to the `/tmp` directory.

While this solution worked, I still encountered some issues during testing. Fortunately, by tweaking the installation settings and re-running the installer, every component was finally installed successfully.
